NO contams due to newly built environment?

Just wondering if I've been lucky or does the fact that I live in an environment that was only built one year ago give way to the fact that I've never had problems with contams.? I have been fairly careless with my contam preventions compared to some of the posts I've seen here, yet I've not experienced any contam issues. Just wondering if maybe the fact that my environment hasn't had much time to become contam-ridden results in my ability to be loose in my prevention. Any thoughts?

There is a good chance that being in a newer place will be helpful.
But..I would have to say drafts and air movement in a room makes contams more of a problem than anything else...IMHO That and opening contaminated jars in the house. <--don't ever do it!~ Opening a contaminated jar in a house will spread contamination all over the fricken place!~
I have an older home built in the early 50's... and have never experienced any contams unless I had a draft running through the room I was working in. I have a very low contam rate...in general. I have done open air agar work in the past...and had zero contams. I try and keep things clean and draft free when I am working on something. Sometimes I get anal and go on cleaning sprees.
I have a good friend that had a really nasty, dirty apt. He worked in the worst conditions imaginable...and he never cleaned. He had a very low contamination rate...and I always wondered how the fuck he got away with it. I really think it was because there was no draft. He even had a cat walk across what he was working on!~
anyway...
good luck to you!~

i also live in a home that was built recently. i'm so lazy with sterile procedure it would also make people cringe, and rarely have problems myself. i take precautions by using a glovebox when printing and prepping syringes, but that's it. everything else is open air, most i do is wipe the counter and wash my hands. i've had bacterial contams but *never* a mold contam in a colonizing jar or on a casing (well had mold contams on two occasions, and both were on purpose, had to prove to myself it was possible in this place, and on both occasions it took a really long time for something to set in!) i'm super lazy at leaving half eaten food sitting around too and even that doesn't mold. i gauge by the coffee pot haha... my old place, forget to take the grounds out and within 48 hours it was covered with white fuzz... even the pot itself would have mold growing in it if i didn't empty it out all the way. (same for half drinken beer bottles, ewww) here i can leave them for weeks on end (i have 3 coffee pots, so it has happened that i've left them for weeks) and nothing, they look and smell as fresh as the day so far back i brewed up some coffee.
consider yourself lucky, and heed that advice about the contams... if you do catch something, dispose of it quickly and carefully. keep your environment clean and certainly dont encourage the spread of anything by being careless

yeah, i live in an old apartment, and it's not the cleanest of places, but it's not nasty. i just do all my work in the bathroom (no windows/vents) and close the door, no moving air! and i've had 1 out of 27 jars contam so far in this apartment. not bad, but not 100% either. i've yet to encounter green mold on anything except an old loaf of bread. then again, when i'm not innocing, i have all the windows and the patio door open too... might help that i'm on the third floor too.
anyways, i hope your luck continues!

So far it seems that drafts are the greatests contributions to contams. I have no draft issues where I'm at so this could be a great breakthrough in understanding where contams mostly stem from!
