ok.... so my friend and I just found 8 different kind of mushrooms in the 10 minutes it just took to get dark and we found are first amanita muscaria? frostina? wich ever this year. All the mushrooms we found were in a 20 foot radias and all were growing near or on green moss in deep woods.
Can anyone help us in identifying this beatifull mushroom?
we can take more pictures if need be.

The last pic is a cool redish orange mushroom.... we need help identifying it also
Thanks- Chris

For Amanita IDs we need to see the bulb at the base of the stem, which is missing in your specimen. Nobody will be able to ID that for you.
The little orange one looks like it could be a chanterelle of some kind, but better pictures will be required to ID that one.

My thought exactly - that suspected amanita looks far gone as far as the base of the stem goes.

yeah.... unfortunately we found it at the later half of it's life. it basically fell apart when we tried to un-earth it from the soil..... there is a smaller one growing next to the one in the picture outside though...... it's still in an egg shape. Maybe in a few days I can get a better pic with the base. Thanks for the help.
Are amanita muscaria's kind of common in upstate NY?

They are found frequently in the fall - I mostly find them under white pine (coniferous trees with long needles).
I created a WIKI page last year on Amanita muscaria var formosa - there are a bunch of pics.

Yes, but I think that we can definatly rule out var. formosa as the white spots on the cap appear to be akin to bug bites rather than warts.

i dont think that really looks like an amanita.. it doesnt seem to have the bulbous base... and i have found several similiar looking fungi here in NY and they all belonged to the Bolete family..

Yeah, it definitely does not look like muscaria - just trying to remind that certain features are important for the identification of amanitas in general.
