I'm planning on going shroom hunting tomorrow at 5:00 in the morning but before i go i need to know a few things. Firstly it's rained today off and on and the sun really hasn't been out to dry it yet so i was wondering if it would most likely still be good to go at 5:00am? Or would it have had to rain during the night. Also is it true that only the grain feed cow shit can grow shrooms on it? Also i live in north alabama so would they still be in season pretty hefty here, or would i have a hard time finding them?

That is very difficult to determine... Try it. What is the worst outcome? Just be sure you know the owner of the property that you will be searching.

Its the other way around, most grain fed cattle are fed with grain that has goverment mandated fugicide in it. Put there for one reason, so that our favorite fungas cannot grow in their fecies. You want cows that are straw fed or eat the tall grasses in the fields they live on.
I look for fields that are secluded, if you see any cow carcasses its probably a good field. If the people that owned the field went out very often they would probably clean up the carcasses. Another thing that I look for is fields with colored tape around the trees, that means the area is used for enviromental studies and they simply put cows on the property for reduced taxes (with cows you can claim the land agricultural).
As for the sun and rain situation, the more rain the better, and mushrooms dont extract energy or nutrients from the sun, it is simply a trigger for the mycellium to start fruiting. So as long as the sun comes up lol it will be okay providing the temperatures and humidity are correct (70-85F and as close to 100% as your area gets) in the mornings when the dew is still in the air and on the grass is the best.
I usually use www.weather.com to check the temperatures and humidities in the areas I plan to go shrooming, they even have a "fungi meter" which shows the likelyness of fungi to be growing in that area.

This is total BS, nothing more than any urban legend. No offense 2FiNiTe. I'm sure you heard that from somebody, but it is nothing other than a paranoid fantasy; it is the type of disinformation the shroomery was created to counter.

There have been many versions of this myth relayed on the hunting board. According to the lack of evidence, I concur this is simply not true, unless someone can provide proof other than anecdotal.
Other versions have explained that certain concoctions of fertilizer include "fungicide". This is ludicrous, mushrooms help to decompose the waste from cattle.
Farmers have no invested interest in keeping their crap around.

Ya I was going to say something about this also.... You can NOT stick this shit in the feed it will pollute the cow!
And tell me why finding dead cows makes it a good hunting spot?
