I found these today with hundreds more coming out in a 50 by 50 area..

I found a huge patch today while walking through the woods... I didn't have any paper bags with me so I just let them be...
I will go back tomorrow and pick a few for my first chanterelle cooking experience...

i think i ran accross a couple today while i was walking i didnt have my field guide with me so i erred on caution and left them ill check them out again after the next rain ther eshould be more

it was unbelievable how many I found... the whole forest floor was covered in an orangish yellow color...
largest patch of anything I have ever found...

Nice.
You realize, I hope, that the little holes (in the last photo, for example) in the stem are tunnels from maggots eating their way through those. Be sure to reject any that have lots of those tunnels (unless you're into eating maggots).
trauma47645, chanterelles are perennials. They will come up in the same spot year after year, as long as the weather is OK and the trees they associate with aren't harmed. If you find chanterelles, remember the spot - you can come back there every year and you'll almost always find more there.

went out again to find more. found a new spot in same woods. now I have enough to eat, I sliced them in half you were right buggy... thanks toxic I added other meat for protein.LOL...Ray...
