The DC Smoke-In
    #5823062 - 07/05/06 10:40 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Every year local pro-marijuana groups obtain a permit to rally and march in DC to support marijuana legalization. Every year, for the past 8 or so, I make my way down there and, honestly every year it sucks. All of the speakers were burned out old hippies and long-time agitators. Not one of the people really represented a group that really was pro-marijuana and pro-freedom. Each guy was from some group that seemed to have marijuana legalization as a side issue.

One of the agitator-types was this guy from "Cures Not Wars", a group advocating ibogaine usage for addiction treatment. Now, from the name, you can tell that this guy isn't a doctor out giving medical advice, hes some leftist hippie. Why even bring "wars" into the scenario? Why can't liberal-hippie-marxist leftists ever manage to do anything without criticizing Gee Dubya? All we heard about was how great ibogaine is at treating drug addiction and since Bush and his family has been into cocaine and heroin smuggling for years, using the Tx Rangers stadium for a 'drop point' until cocaine became less profitable, then Bush Jr sold it, they don't want ibogaine legalized. And if it werent' for Bush we'd all be singing in the streets with marijuana legalized.

Another douchebag that came up to speak said the same shit, really. That pot being illegal is all Bush's fault and that the war in Iraq is just part of his plan to keep pot illegal and all sorts of other bullshit liberal causes. He also was of the opinion that 'hard drugs' should stay illegal, this from a guy who's first statment was "It's about FREEDOM!"

When the guys were done, I went over and told them what a bunch of douchebags they were. It wasn't necessary to bring up any of that stuff. I could argue for months about drug legalization and not have to criticize Bush for it. Setting up straw man arguments like that just made their point look weaker.

So then we go for a march from LaFayette park down to like, the middle of fucking nowheresville. WAY past the lincoln memorial, way away from the "regular people". I made sure to thank every cop that escorted us and that blocked off the roads. I told them that they should march with us, it would save them having to arrest people for smoking pot and let them go after the real criminals more. One of the cops that was driving, I'll post the pics in a little bit and indicate what car he was in, said that he'd be marching with us if he could. We marched past the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association where the guys were all mouthing "Fucking assholes" to us, so I went over to talk with them. I asked them if they swore to uphold the Constitution , and they said yes, and I asked where it said that the government had the ability to regulate what substances I put in our bodies. He asked what I'd done "For freedom", and I told him of my military service and what not. So we keep marching and the main agitator has this loudspeaker that he probably used for some liberal causes back in the '60's and it doesn't work for shit. Noone is organized at all. I kept running up and down the parade getting people to shout "We smoke pot and we like it a lot!" LOTS of people were looking at us and I'd always say something to them "Come on, it's your rights we are fighting for!" or "If you smoke pot, you should be with us". I saw this one super-uptight looking bitch with about 12 kids just scowling at us and I said "Come on and march with us so that it'll be legal when your kids start smoking!" Hah, she got fucking enraged

So the march finishes up at the Checkpoint. We had to open our bags up, but the cops didn't search that well, not my stuff at least. I think that cops always respect me because I'm in reasonable shape, dress nicely and my backpack looks liek something that they'd carry. So I just shoot the shit with teh cop for a few minutes and pass the checkpoint. When I get inside, I start yelling about how much I love America and how I'm glad we don't have an oppressive tyrannical government anymore that would, say, discard our right to be secure in our persons and property and not subject to search without probable cause or a warrant. I go on for about 20 minutes, calling the checkpoint the Berlin wall and telling the people that they've got to check their Constitutional rights at the armed guards, so that we can enjoy our freedoms in the fenced in areas. One cop, some little Napolean looking guy, starts to tell me to move back until I start shouting that apparently our First amendment was thrown out of the window as well, then he shut up and just sits back and scowls at me. A few SWAT officers show up and I mention how happy our Founding fathers would be that policemen dressed in black carrying automatic weapons and not wearing any identification were searching peoples private property without a warrant. I asked them how many doors they'd kicked in recently and how many innocent families they flashbanged. I really pissed those cops off, actually. Fortunatly, one of the old time hippies was standing near me with a video camera, and I think that really culled their reactions. After the whole parade makes it through the checkpoint, the fun starts.

Good music, everyone smoking up, the cops watching us blaze. I smoked a BIG fatty of nugs and kept waving at the cops and taking their picture. Some guy walks around asking if we can "spare any", and I had a BAD vibe so I just kinda ignored him, then he sat down and asked if we could spare some bud. I said "Nope officer, noone around here is smoking any bud." and he smiles, pats me on the back and says "hah, thanks" and walks away. Later I see him tackle and arrest a guy who tried to sell him a bag. Then it rains and I say "fuck it", I'm sunburned, burned out from smoking so much pot and exhausted, so we come back home. I didn't even see any fireworks last night.

If someone volunteers to fix them, I'll post a bunch of pics. My camera was in "upside down" mode for some motherfucking reason, so all of the pics need to be mirror imaged and then they'll look right, I have lots of pics of signs and such.

The weirdo in yellow was one of the main speakers.

Some banners

The douch on the left dressed up like Uncle Sam is the "Freedom speech" guy who talked about Bush using the Rangers stadium for coke drops.

The guy in the car on the left was the one who said he wishes he could have marched with us.

Freedom is just another word for block everything off with armed guards.

One of the better signs.

Obviously, these images are fucked up. If someone can fix them and re-post, I'd appreciate it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I sometimes feel that although they all talk about what they think they want, most of them are just empty fools looking for the same thing the right is, Whats good for them, not whats good for everyone. I can't get over the feeling that I don't belong in this country.

Good deal.

Last night as a cop tried to walk into my party it felt good to tell him to get the fuck out unless he had a search warrant.

The asshole just tried to waltz in on private property.

Also, if I hear one more of those douche bags blame bush for something I'm gonna wrap my hands around their neck, can someone be so blind as to sincerely think that its just George Bush doing all these evil things?

The problem is systematic, and one election isn't going to change anything
