Fruit bodies only growing on the bottom of the cake.

A friend of mine has put two cakes in a double deck growing chamber with perlite and water spraying 3/4 times a day. Fruit bodies are starting to appear only at the very bottom on the cake, where there very little mycelium and almost only verm+rice flour. The cakes are placed on little ceramic plates which are positioned on the metal net above the wet perlite. Temperature is around 78/79 F and according to the hygrometer humidity is 99%. Why aren't the mushrooms growing on the cake itself?

Do you mean the cake is not fully colonized? As far as it fruiting from the bottom only, that is very normal. Sometimes cakes pin fron the bottom only, sometimes the top only, or sometimes both. I don't know what causes this but I know all my cakes always pin differently.

Yes, the cakes are completely colonized but at the very bottom the myc is less present since is where i put the pure vermiculite when i made the cake and some got sticked by the mycelium. I thougth they where growing at the bottom because thats where all the humidity collects and may be in the chamber the moisture is not enough (the hygrometer migth be wrong!) Another thing is that the mycelium i growing funny kind of wads here and there on the cake. I don't think is cobweb since is completely white and looking ryzomorph.

this sounds normal to me if you put the verm layer on the bottom. From what I've read, Fruits form best where there is moisture attatched to the cake, and this verm layer will soak up moisture from your FC...thusly creating pins around the bottom.
Furthermore, your humidity is too high for most strains of cubs. to fruit propperly. Try lowering the humidity to around 85%-90% and see if that helps.
As far as the funny wads of mycillium, I really dont exactly know...one possibility is that parts of your cake are more dense than others, thusly making this strange patching to happen, or it could simply be contamination....from my understanding that's the only 2 things that would cause that.
