~ If an .exe drops on your C:\ and there is no one around to hear it... does it make a sound? Or does it just compromise your privacy?
Would anyone gander a guess as to which of the sponsors has the audacity to participate in this practice? And why?
Smells like roses to me... 3 KB... what's on your root?

Tom from myspace! Really? Wow! Dude, your famous, why not just go by Tom around here too? I'm sure you'd get a lot of shrooms if people knew you were Tom from myspace. Oh, and by getting shrooms I mean ratings. It's kinda like the more friends you have on myspace, the cooler you are (which is why you're the coolest, you are everybody's friend!), but around here, the more shrooms you get under your name, the cooler you are....
Seriously, it's gonna take a really long time for "Alphanumericonly" to get 5 shrooms, but just change your name to Tom from myspace and I'm sure you'll get the 5 shrooms in no time.... wow! Guys, this dude's bigger than Oprah in some circles.....

LOL... no Tom here. And friends? Well... there we go and here you are.
Surprisingly. When cruising to the Sporeworks site, '23100247.exe' drops on your C drive and attempts access outbound unless your firewall stops it. Mine did. IE6 so of course it's WIDE open for that sort of thing. That's not going to happen anymore, I think I've got it all locked down.
Try it. Depending on what you're running, your browser may or may not allow it.
Shame on Sporeworks... shaaaaame,

Update...
I service packed my shit and I don't pick it up anymore. Was running virgin SP2 with no updates [shoots self in foot...]
It still bothers my ass that I picked up a trojan (Goldun.Fam) from the Works.
Ideas?

Either Sporeworks was unintentionally 'deer tagged' on their servers and doesn't know it, or it's doing this intentionally.
Here's what I saw... every time I would access the site w/Internet Explorer, that damn file would drop on my C drive. I'd delete it, close my browser, go back and see it drop again.
Scary. Halloween comes early this year....

It appears as though a weekness in a php program script allowed for insertion of malicious javacode, almost certainly by automatic scripts looking for this exploitation. This situation has been addressed and the exploitation has been removed through software updates and upgrades.
We appreciate the notification, and thank you for your understanding.

It is such BS that people do that to web sites. I am so worried about attacks and viruses anymore that it is sad. If it wasn`t for most of my games I would have switched to linux by now. Good job to the one who found it and gj to the vender for fixing it. Thanks for watching out for those of us who would not have noticed it.

Excellent, Smithers...
Yeh, I switched to Firefox, got a new haircut, took some responsibility and updated my shi*t. No foolin'- it really makes you want to give serious thought to switching over to SUSE Linux or something other than (gasp) Whatever Windows.
Thank you for the update, Psilocyber... Sporeworks is one of my absolutely favorite playgrounds and I would hate for anything negative to become associated with it. Well... urr, umm... moving on...
