Old, dry spores
    #5821192 - 07/04/06 07:28 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I can't get the search engine to answer my question(s):

Can a dried 1 year-old-cap create a print and/or inoculate a syringe? How?

EDIT: I'm beginning to gather that the answer is "why bother?"

ok, if you have a cap thats that old that you want to produce from (you must really like the strain lol) take a quarter portion of the cap and put it in a sterile jar of malt and water (if u dont have malt you can use honey but malt is superior) and just treat it like a cake. BTW, in the malt and water jar you should put some h2o2 in it just to keep the contams down from the cap.

Your dried cap won't make a print, but you may be able to salvage some spores from it.
But it is a lot of work.

Take a small piece of the cap and soak it is some sterile water, mix it up well and suck up the solution into a syringe. use the solution to streak some agar plates, section out any healthy mycelium  and transfer to new plates. Eventually you should get a healthy culture to work with.

Have fun
