Mushroom generation question

I have read that potency and yeild will be effected after a few generations. so from what i understand taking spore prints from a yeild, and growing that will be second gen and so forth. but what about continually growing mycelium? so if I inoculate one jar, let it grow, then inoculate another jar, and keep the mycelium going that way, is this a generation thing too? or is this still considered 1st gen?
sorry if my question is hard to understand, if you can make it out, let me know and i'll try to re word

you got it backwards.
working from a spore print starts all over again. two monokaryotic mycelia meet, and "mate" and you've got a fresh set of genetics.
using mycelium to inoculate more mycelium (as in an agar transfer, a gran to grain transfer, knocking up an LC from an LC, "cloning a clone") etc is the generation thing, and can be done a couple of times but when you overdo it you can run into problems.
we're not talking about generations in the traditional sense, where you think of kids and parents and grandparents and such... its more or less how many generations we're keeping the SAME set of genetics alive.

yeah, you could think of it instead of parent->children think of it as 2 twins fucking, having twins, and those twins fucking, until of course, all the babies are retarded and messed up and nobody wants them :P
well, it's actualy nothing like that, i just wanted to talk about babies that are retarded and messed up.
cheers!

actually, it _IS_ like twins fucking if you think about it... twins have identical dna, so if they fucked and had a kid, in theory it would have identical dna (half mom, half dad), but unfortunately there's a chance it would have mutant retarded babies too...
not to mention, i think for that to work it would have to be identical twins, and there's no such thing as boy/girl identical twins, so really it would have to be a kid from two dudes humping or two chicks humping, either way, it doesn't really amount to a child.

heh not really... there's no fucking going on anymore when we clone dikaryotic mycelium
its more like... if humans were asexual and could "bud"... ie, rip my arm off and i grow a new arm, and the torn off arm grows a new rest of me so that they're two of us... but chances are that torn off arm is going to screw something up (a mutation) when it grows a rest-of-the-body and every time you do that over again those screw-ups accumulate until eventually it doesn't work or you end up with a really messed up version of me.
two chicks humping sounds good to me too though

So...let me clarify to make sure I understand what I've read above...
Mushroom generation doesn't have to do with how many times you take a spore print from a parrent and print from the resulting fruits...and so on....but rather how long you let the same mycillium extend into new substrate?

correctamundo! generations only get fucked up through constant cloning.
you can use the same jar of LC forever just like a spore print too. it's just cloning that you can only do a limited amount of times with success
