Hi, this is a un-cased hpoo substrate that was spawned from brf.
Compared to the hpoo pinsets I've seen on posts around here, this isn't very impressive. The only place i think I went wrong was putting it in the FC a few days before full colonization. Was it because there's no casing? p.s. whats the best road for rehydrating uncased poo: misting, injecting a few cc's of water in many spots, or dunking the whole thing?

There are way to many variables to name, like omni said, take a look at Hyphae's pinning strategy and compare your method with his.

Is it possible to make the 2nd flush even? Maybe take off all the pins and case it? Or would casing it be bad since the knots are already of the surface of the substrate?
Also want to know about rehydration...

well thats really up to you. I think you should dunk it. Just fill the tub with whatever you want to soak it in and put a clean weight on it to keep it under water. Also on a large casing it is good to make some punctures in the middle with a sterile knife or fork so water gets in the middle well. You will often get a heavy flush around the edges where the water was more easily absorbed. You can rehydrate a lot of different ways including running a soaker hose through your sub when you put it together and just adding water that way. You are not gonna get a huge pinset without casing I do not believe. Hyphae's pinning strategy is about casing. Mod - Roadkill has a lot of experience with 1st flush off poo then casing. I would pm him about it or ask him to comment in the forum.
IMHG - Guess - would be to pull the pins while they are small and case it. Use a thin casing layer 1/2 inch or so.
