i have been pondering a recipe for wood-lovers, and just looking for a little feed-back. i was thinking about vermiculite, brown rice flour, and hardwood saw dust. in similar proportions to the PF TEK. in half-pint jars, to be colonized, then crumbled and cased with 50+50. any thoughts on this subject?

What strain you going to use for this experiment? I may be wrong, but isn't the "normal" method to colonize spawn then add to the woodchip bed? I'd like to see somthing like this work though, I assume you are considering this because you will want to fruit em as cakes?

Switch out your BRF with wheat bran. I have done this years ago with excellent results but remember wood-lovers take quite awhile longer to colonize than cubies so you'll have to have even more patience. GL

Like Hyphae said, they will take longer, which may present problems other than impatience. The grain adds nutrition so your sterile technique will need to be on. If they take a long time to pin you'll need take this into consideration, too. Perhaps Hyphae can advise you about pinning.
