habitat: on a fescue lawn with a sprinkler system, no large trees around, but i think there was a sapling gills: completely white, smell kind of fresh herby, like thyme or one of those stem: has a ring, about 4 inches long bruises a maroonish or red/purple color location: OU

my last post turned out to be a lepiota, and I think this one might be too. if so, are there any active lepiotas? do any lepiotas change colors? thanks guys btw sorry about picture quality. will get digital camera if i ever make a good find

No there are no active Lepiotas.. with a brief look, that one could be a Lepiota also or one of the sub-genera of Lepoita... Especially since you said your last finds were Lepiota and you said there were no trees around.
Some of them are very poisonous, some develop green gills with age and drop green spore prints.
Unless you are skilled at identifying Lepiotas to exact species, do not eat them for any reason.

Yes, it looks like another Lepiota. Yes, some lepiotas bruise red. No, there are no active lepiotas.
There are some deadly Lepiotas, and your mushroom strikes me as one of them.
Your chances of finding active mushrooms on the lawn at OU are very slim. But, Asianyumyum did report finding Pan subbs on lawns in Columbus that were frequented by geese, so it is not entirely impossible.
