i just got through dunking a couple of my cakes and put them in a plastic container with wet perlite on the bottom. I used the jar lids as a barrier from the perlite. Ive never grown before, what next? Should i expect pins soon? One of the cakes isnt fully colonized , but about 75% of it is. What do you think does it sound like i did everything right? Should i see pins? How soon?

well if you put your cakes into an FC (fruiting chamber) which is basicaly your container with wet perlite....your cakes should be fully colonized before you do this. if they are fully colonized and you dunked your cakes for the proper ammount of time...you should see pins ranging anywhere from 5-10 days average. some take longer.

um i dont really know. i heard they are supposed to be. just be patient. there is no way to rush this. if youre curious about your strain go to the grow log section and do a search on them. you can see other members grows on the same strain.

also .... when i took the cakes out from dunking a few spots where the myc was really thick turned a bit yellow. Does that sound like anything to worry about. It seems to me it might just be because its extremely saturated. I dunked for only 9 hours though.

I'm concerned about the 75% colonized cake...it sounds like you should not have it around the other cakes as it is going to be prone to contamination.

alright i guess ill try not to sweat it. I just get worried ive never had success in anything ive tried to grow... as far as plants anyways, so i decided to give mycology a try , i hope it works out. Does it sound like ive got a shot? Ive been trying to do everything by the book for the most part.

I might be wrong, but I don't think that there is a complete grower's guide on this website that tells you to dunk your cakes. I dunked one of mine just to see what would happen, and the fucker just started pinning yesterday, after being in the grow chamber for over a week. the other non-dunked cakes took all of 4 days before pinning started. This by no means suggests that you shouldn't dunk, but if you talk to the more experienced growers like I have, most of them will tell you that you either shouldn't dunk until after the first flush, or that it is unnecessary and will do nothing but slow down the process. You still have a great shot at growing, but you have definitely set yourself back at least three more days than you would've been at if you didn't dunk. Moreover, I had some cakes that took over two weeks to pin, and they weren't dunked; I was just using a really shitty FC. Patience should've been one of the cardinal virtues.
