Take a large pot and put in about two cups of finch seed in it. Add water until its covering the seed. Now simmer until the seed soak up the water and add more water. Add water until the seed double in size. Now put the seed in a large mixing bowl and add 1/2 cup of BRF to the seed. Mix good. Now add enough vermiculite to the mix until its not to sticky and is airy. put in pint jars halfway. Use your hands to fill the jar not a spoon or you may pack the seed. Now pressure cook as usual. Oh put the lids on loose rubber side up.:)bluhoney

Got these from Bluehoney: This is a very easy and simple recipie for bird seed ( millet, ie finch seed) Take a large sauce pan and fill with 2 cups of washed finch seed. ( washing with water helps remove the bird coat additive) Next place the seed in the sauce pan and put three cups of water or enough to submerge the seed. Now bring the seed to a simmer and stir for 10 minutes, never let it boil. You will need to add water as the seed will double in size drawing up water. Then when the seed have doubled, reduce heat to low and put a lid on until the rest of the water is absorbed. Now in a large mixing bowl, mix the 2 cups of seed with 1 cup of vermiculite. You may need to add a little more depending on the volume of seed. You want the consistantcy to be that of being able to squeeze it together and yet it still will shake apart and be airy. Now place in pint jars filling them up by hand not with a spoon( will compact the seed) to a little over half way. Then pressure cook as normal. ------------------------------------------------------ Another post by BlueHoney : Hello.:), this recipie is from a very good and missed person from the old days, ; by Funkyballoon, (Aug.23,1999) ************************************************************** 1. Boil/simmer a certain volume of birdseed with the same volume of water to soak in. 2. Mix boiled birdseed with brown rice flour. 70% birdseed and 30%BRF. No vermiculite. When they're mixed nice and good, add water until everything is nice and moist, but not dripping wet. 3. Put into half-pint jars and tape the holes. Pressure cook for 45 minutes at 15psi 4. Let jars cool to room temp and then inoculate. ************************************************************* It's simple, and works great! ---------------------------------------------- I have used both. If you want some more......do a search.

One cup of birdseed with a half cup of water in a quart jar with a poly-fil lid works great. Pressure cook the jars for one hour at 15 psi. Shake the jars after inoculating and after you see stable growth. They should be colonized in about a week, give or take a few days.
