Pressure Cooker Problem

Not all that long ago I bought a used All American PC. It works good.
My problem:
It was wet inside when it arrived. I cleaned it out but every time I use it all this white shit(electrolysis) keeps coming back.It has not yet pitted the alum. I'm worried it will.
Is tthere any way to stop this?

i'd like to know... mine does the same!
mine isn't an AA, its a "national" PC that i think was around before WW1 haha... i get the white gooey stuff every time i use it and i can't figure out where its coming from because like yours, it doesn't actually pit the aluminum or cause any observable change to the inside of the PC once i wash it out.

that "white gooey" stuff is aluminum oxide... the minerals in your water or just the heat itself is oxidising your PC's... try using distilled water, and if that doesn't work, i think they actually make aluminum protectant...
my SUPER old one did that (i have a pc from 1938) and it just turned out i have really hard water.
anyways, hope that helped

they will pit your PC if you dont clean the deposits off right away...but there will always be microscopic damage.....so try out some RO or distilled water

i wonder if its coming from the aluminum foil i wrap jars in though, and not the PC itself... because like i said not only is mine totally ancient but since i've had it i've put it through a LOT of use and there doesn't seem to be any adverse effects to the PC itself... ill have to put mine through a run without anything in it later and see, if so that would put my mind at ease

yeah, it could be the foil, but unfortunately with older PC's, it's usually the PC itself, from expanding and retracting so many times. the pits probably arent visible when its cold, but if you start your pc and boil without the cap on for a while, you might see bubbles forming on the sides... they'll usually form at a group of pits, and when you cool it down, the places where most the bubbles are coming from will have the aluminum oxide... it kinda leeches out

i don't wrap foil around mine i use a 2 piece lid so as to stay sterilized/for storage then i plastic wrap em when there done pc'ing and i use tap water Ive let sit out for a day or 2. it helped but i found its unavoidable(to get the white crap in your PC). i also find that if you poke holes in your jar and cover them with a filter in your glove box and let them sit in an incubator for 3 days you can effectively reduce wasting spores on contaminates but its unnecessary i do this 1 every 3 batches and Ive rarely gotten one jar outta 24 to grow a contaminant if all procedures are followed for sterility you should be fine

I have hard tapwater and get white funk all over, I've been putting a dash of vinegar in with myne to keep the whites away, I was just thinking it was calcium deposits from my hard water.
That would also explain why RO or Distilled doesn't leave the residue.
However the shit left behind in mine doesn't look anything like that.. it's more of a semi-translucent white coating on everything....so just don't mind me
