On lighting
    #5816395 - 07/03/06 03:27 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

My jars are fully colonized and have been for about 2 days, now i've read on the teks that you should wait another week for pins to form before taking out, is this completely necessary? Also how much light is needed to trigger pinning? it said indirect light but is putting it in hardly lit area enough (EG closet with door cracked)? Or is it better to place it in the center of a room with lets say a window but not direct light?

your jars are ready to birth.  i know there's teks instruct you to wait for pins but its not necessary, and really just a waste of time.

for light, it takes an astoundingly little to trigger pinning at a bare minimum, so a closet with the door cracked will work, but isn't optimal.  more light is beneficial to an extent, you'll get more pins, and they'll know which way is up.  you can put a flourescent bulb in your closet (a cheap lamp and a 15 watt corkscrew type bulb should cost no more than $10-15 in total) if you want to keep it there, or in the center of a room with a few hours worth indirect sunlight is just fine too   you certainly don't need to go any more complicated than that though.
