So is it true that BRF mushies are generally lacking in magic?

Completely untrue. They aren't as potent as those grown on some other substrates, but they are still quite effective.

Choice of substrate has little to nothing to do with potency. RR

The issue with potency is rather subjective, but cubes I've grown on horse shit were far more potent than other substrates I've used. I haven't tried worm castings (yet).

I heard on here that BRF substrates would produce the least potent mushrooms compared to other substrates

RR does not lie... One of the best + most visual trips i had was off a 50/50 mix of PESA + Orissa India... both grown from BRF...
My Oaxaca's off Hpoo were badass too...
But i wouldn't say one was better then the other...

Rice works just as well as anything else. I have used rye, hpoo, popcorn, worm castings, coir, straw, and rice. I have never detected a difference in potency, only in size and yield.
