Anyone experience with Bluethumb's "Spawn Mate"?
    #581446 - 03/17/02 02:46 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

Bluethumb has worked over their site and did so very good. I was stunned by the expanded array of supplies that they now offer. One of the more intriguing ones is the so called "Spawn Mate", as well as pre-sterilized jars for under $2. I am curious about the spawn mate however because they claim that it consists of time released proteins which will reward you with 80% more yield.
In reply to:

Spawn Mate

Spawn mate gives you the best of all worlds. A 45% protein Delayed Release Supplement, this spawn mate is a precise blend of proprietary soybean and feathermeal additives.

Use year round and with little worry over compost conditions. If your compost is not-quite-up-to-par, ProMycel is a safe choice. If you have excellent compost, (such as Dr. Bluethumbs compost) you can safely use more ProMycel(spawn mate) for a better yield and a better crop With excellent flow characteristics, it is ideal for use with supplement on tray farms, bulk operations or in bins, applying it by hand.
Best of all, this spawn mate has an early temperature rise, allowing for the most complete spawn run in the shortest period of time. You can reduce the time to harvest significantly, while you increase the productivity of your crop. Spawn mate is a good value, with a usage rate of 3-4% of the dry weight, (a little goes a long way)

I can't quite make sense of it... In other words does this add to the seed/manure sterilized jars, or is it used at a latter stage? Has anyone used this stuff? It is quite cheap! I need to git some and try the bastard...

Try it and let us know. I would love to see a side by side comparison, with all other factors being the same.

We have used it in the casing layer and improved yields the 80% is an up to I don't know that we have sat down and did the math to see if it is exact I have had reports of people using it in there substrates but I have not had pics etc... of there results.

We are working on using this in several substrates, casing layers etc... and when we can catch up on orders and have time to do some work we will get some logs going that will keep track of our findings
