I have a quick newb question. I have never rolled nor do I know how to. I have not found a good enough faq to even justify this procedure and it's benefits. Could anyone give me some input on how to roll and the benefits? I also have the same question for Double End Casing (DEC) Thanks a lot!

they're casing layers... they help provide a better/more even pinset.

Do I need to sterilize the verm before applying to the cake while rolling and dec?

here i'll write one for you:
dunk your cakes in water for 12-24 hours
pour some vermiculite on a baking pan, put it in the oven at 200 degrees, leave it in there for 45 minutes, take it out, let it cool, take your cakes out of their dunking container, roll them in the vermiculite, double end case, place in fruiting chamber and spray it every day. voila

But is this really worth the effort? Why would rolling the cake in verm do anything along with dec? I have not found anything solid about these methods or why one would do this.

myc will grow around the verm and form pins... it's like a little ramp for the pins
anyways, it gives a way better pinset and helps with water retention.. you don't have to do it if you don't want to, you'll just get less shrooms

hmm, a lot of contradictions are going with sterilizing the verm. I may just sterilize it to be safe. Thanks for all your input everyone it was very helpful.

exactally, do you really want to waste all your time up til now just because you saved a half hour of baking the verm? didn't think so. better safe than sorry
