ok, so i've got 12 pint jars of wbs colonizing as we speak, i only could afford 5 lbs of magic mikes tennesee stud for spawning. do you absolutely HAVE to spawn wbs to poo, or can you case straight wbs.
i've heard both ways...

You can case it directly. Ive done bred pan casings, and lasagna pan casings with WBS. Works good! Spawning it to poo is preferred, do to the nutrient increase, but by itself works great too.

This comes from reading, not direct experience, but I've been told that the fruits will not be potent because WBS does not have the nutritional content to support the shrooms. The WBS is inoculated first because it is quick to colonize, retains water and creates many points for the pins to work with.
I happen to ask the same question about three weeks ago. Here's the thread.

I'd add coir and your used coffee grinds to the horse manure to make it go farther. A brick of coir and several days worth of the used morning coffee grinds will come close to doubling that 5 lbs of manure, then just mix all 12 jars into it. Don't forget lime and gypsum. RR

Ah, sorry about that. I keep forgetting that "casing" means more than one thing. When I hear the term I think "the layer that goes above the colonized substrate."

No, you were right. Casing is casing. He's talking about using it as spawn. It should be called the spawn run, not casing.
