which trays are best to use in 4 tier greenhouse?

I just set up one of the infamous 4 tier greenhouses, and ordered a cool mist to pump into it. Is there a certain size tray that anyones had a lot of success with? (height/length/width, plastic or foil, brand etc)

I would recommend 16 quart sweater boxes. just ask hippie chick.
I use the two dollar busboy tubs right now.
restaurant half and hotel pans are great.
anything works really, just fill all the space you can. square fits more surface area than round.

Look over where the baggies and aluminum foil are in the store. Glad makes black plastic baking trays the size of lasagna pans. They work great, but are only 2 1/2" deep. I keep hoping they'll make a deep dish size. You can colonize two of them, then dump one out on the other to get a 5" substrate block that works wonders. RR

I have also been using the Black Glad Ovenware, but not doubled like RR said. How thick of a substrate layer should be used without overkill?

The sweater boxes i found were clear, will that cause side-pinning?

What I do to make it light proof is line the exterior with black electrical tape. I haven't replaced mine yet.

I take 2 of the sweater boxes and place one within the other with 3 mil plastic sheeting in between. This stops side pinning and allows you to lift out the traw with substrate in it and check how everything is going deep down. If you don't have any 3 mil plastic laying around (check the hardware store), one or two black trashbags will surfice. I got this idea from hippiechick, btw.

Hows it work , awesome isn't it .
Here they are in action

as you can see , they block out the light , and make it easy to check what's going on with colonization
You know , you can do away with the need for foil and saran wrap also this way . Just drill about 16 quarter inch holes in the box lid . Tape the holes with micro spore tape , both sides , and put the lids back on after spawning . You can lift the lids every couple days , at an angle , and shake the water from them , away from the casing , to keep the moisture from dripping onto the casing and getting it too wet .
The boxes like that work great , don't they . And they fit that 4 tier just perfect . You know you can put them sideways and get 4 to a shelf . That's 80 pounds of poo in a green house or roughly , 50 pounds of wet shrooms in a month . At a dollar a pound for Mike's pre-pasteurized sub , 36 quarts of WBS , or about 10 bucks worth of WBS , you could have 5 pounds of dried Shiitake for $90 . $130 dollars if you have to buy the green house . Or a little under a dollar per dried Shiitake . Fresh even bring a much better price . I take mine to an organic food market that meets on Sundays and get $12 a pound . I just take my casings and let peeps pick them off . They love it

So that's about $6 a pound . And you're not picking them yourself and they aren't organic . That organic crap will get you another 3-4$ a pound .

Ha! Organic mushrooms? I guess it beats those mushrooms they whip up in beakers and test tubes out of toxic household chemicals and fertilizers!
Honestly, props to you for salesmanship. Slap the word "organic" on something and you can double the price.
I'm surprised my "organic" chemistry class still cost regular price!
A sucker born every minute, for sure. Reminds me that I noticed regular NPK fertilizer is now being sold as a "triple nutrient system".

On a good weekend , 1,200-1,500 . I only go every other weekend . If I don't have 100 pounds fresh , I won't go . I'll sell them to the local , upscale Asian Restaurants for an average of about $5 a pound . You don't see my babies on your local Chineese Lunch Buffet , lol . Mine are in the $20 a entree dinners
Do you know how good a Portabella , just picked off a casing , marinated overnight in some olive oil and basalmic vinegar , and then grilled with some melted motzerella cheese and garlic seasoning , fresh cracked black pepper , dash of salt and a sprinkle of Italien seasoning tastes ?
Most of the time I pick up mushrooms at the store to go with my steaks , the mushrooms cost more per pound then the meat
It helps my sales that Hubby has a restaurant or two and his Chineese Mother has 3 . I pretty much have the market cornered for about 30 Asia restaurants who CAN'T use canned shiitakes in a high priced entree ., lol .

Doesn't get much more organic then horseshit . Rather sell them as organic then grown on SHIT , LMAO
Hubby's also getting ready to start canning some soups to sell , Cream of Barley Mushroom . Last time he had it , he gave out samples and got $8 a quart for it .

2 teaspoons dried basil 2 teaspoons dried marjoram 2 teaspoons dried oregano 1 teaspoon dried sage Some people add a little onion, and/or garlic powder. If you want it spicy, you can add a little ground red pepper flake.
