I cannot for the life of me find the proportions for a malt/dextrose liquid culture. My past honey and karo LC's have failed, so I'm moving onto malt/dex. Can anyone suggest a good tek?

I fill my quart jars to around 700. 600 is a touch safer, but I like 700.
just keep your contam filter dry and clean.

I use a level tablespoon each, to a quart of boiling water. Then filter through 4 or 5 stacked coffee filters into jars. Then, PC @ 15 psi 15 to 20 minutes.

How necessary is the filtration of the liquid? I'm not looking to cut corners, I just missed this step and my LC has already been sterilized. Should I start over or is it not a big deal? I don't want to waste spores on an LC that isn't going to grow.

No real need to filter it. That just removes the tiny chunks, anyway. I do so because I don't want anything but Myc visible.

Malt Extract Agar (3%)(MEA)(General Microbiology)(FDA M93) ---------------------------------------------------------- 30 g Malt extract 20 g Agar 1 L Distilled water
Boil to dissolve ingredients. Avoid overheating, which causes softening of agar and darkening of medium color. Autoclave 15 min at 121°C. Dispense 20-25 ml into sterile 15 x 100 mm petri dishes. Final pH, 5.5 ± 0.2.
This medium is recommended as a general maintenance medium. [1]
[1] Bacteriological Analytical Manual, 8th Edition, Revision A, 1998.
Just omit the agar to make liquid media.
