My birthday is on the 5th, and i was going to ask my parents (turning 18, dont bann me!)if they could get me a mushroom id book. they think that i might mistake an id and get poisoned or use it to hunt actives, which i wont. i just want it for mushrooms in general. i am really not interested in actives, but more of the edible variety. are there any suggestions of a book that i can take to the feild with me to id? id like to show them im really interested in mycology.
thnx
nobhdy.
PS, if this is in the wrong thread, sorry, i just thought the people here would have a better ideas of edible shroom books.

Not a smart idea to admit that! You better edit that out before someone else sees it because they might not let it slide.
Anyways, Mushrooms Demystified is a good one. It will keep you entertained and learning for a long time. There is so much literature on mushrooms in general in there that it's hard to notice the brief mention of the actives.
Part of it depends on what part of the country or world you are in, I know some other good north east books - same goes for other areas. Depends where you are.
