Would RO water with a TDS of 000 parts per million be considered sterile enough for my Kaz Cool Mist humidifier? Or do I need to add a few cc's of hydrogen peroxide? Would RO water be sterile enough for making spore syringes? While I'm on a question asking spree I'd really like to know how much colonized liquid culture do I add to a quart of sterilized rye berries? Sorry if this is a redundant question. Thanks for your replies!

RO water isn't sterilized, it's just devoid of water contaniments that would effect what can grow in it. Thats why it's used for aquariums, etc.

It takes out all impurities down to the size of .003 microns. I guess you're right. Virus' and some bacteria are smaller than that. But I have used it with a couple of cc's of peroxide in my MSC with success. No more calcification, or problems clogging up the humidifier that's for sure I'm just leary of using it without boiling it for syringes. Thanks for your reply cge0

RO water will work fine for your humidifier, many times better than most other water, also distilled water will work fine.
For syringes...I would still PC for 15-25 minutes.
For LC to quart jars, I like to use 3-4mls. but usually the more the better Light and Love, JD

agreed!~
or use the boiling water method to do the syringes if you don't have a pressure cooker...
1. Fill a cooking pot halfway with tap or distilled water (use distilled water if your tap water contains higher levels of minerals and chemicals).
2. Boil the water in the pot on high for a minimum of ten minutes, this should be adequate to sterilize and cleans the water of all bacteria, viruses, and mold spores.
3. Take your empty syringe and fill it with the boiling water. Allow it to sit for two minutes with the hot water inside. (If your syringe was sterility packaged, skip steps 4 and 5).
4. Purge the hot water from the syringe into a sink, not back into the saucepan.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 two or three more times. the last time leave the hot water in the syringe.
6. Place the syringe in a cool draft-free place, preferable in a clean zip-lock bag
7. Allow it to cool for several hours before using.
