fine or coarse verm

Alright, so I pf-ed my cakes until they were 100% colonized. Then they got fridge dunked (~18 hrs). Then I double-end cased and rolled each in fine verm.
I don't know if it is because my humidity is too low or the temp too high, but the myc just wants to grow over its casing (no primordia until just this morning ). Should I switch to coarse verm? It seems like most people who are dunking and rolling are using coarse verm with plenty of good, happy success.

Seems as though coarse is better, but fine works fine.

Ive always used coarse vermiculite for cakes, dunking + rolling, and various other applications. Works great!

i don't think vermiculite is good for you... it's made out of mica, and i believe asbestos was made from the same mineral... i could be wrong though, but i wouldn't feed vermiculite to your buddies :P

ive hed people ask me about gold flakes, i guess that came from people trying to distinguish field and lab shrooms. fine verm holds more water, but you dont get as fluffy of a substrate/casing. kinda muddy. medium to coarse is good.

no...asbestos was found in a Vermiculite mine many years ago.
this one mine in Libby Montana caused an Asbestos scare so bad that we are still feeling it today...in our hobby!~
you can read about it here...
http://www.vermiculite.com
there is no Asbestos in any Vermiculite that is produced today... the EPA does testing all the time to make sure that no Asbestos is found in Verm!~
