Non-Actives from my 1st Caerulipes hunt (updated pics)
    #5811825 - 07/02/06 07:33 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I went out to hunt yesterday around a river that was unfortunately not moving very much. Plus the temps have been near 90 and no rain in the four days prior to the hunt.

I do not believe these are actives, just some finds that I neglected to pick.

Habitat: NC Piedmont -- Woods lining river (approx: 100 yards from water)
Temp: 80-90, med. humidity

Sorry for the crap pics. I only had my cell phone w/ me.

Took the picture from below today with a better camera. This mushroom lives under a tree in a small 3x3x? valley running towards the river.

And here is a large mushroom I saw today while hiking near another local river. Higher humidity today, but this bad boy seems like he's been around for a minute...Probably 10 inches in diameter:

And then this last one from the 1st habitat, taken today:

None of these were picked.

That third one is Strobilomyces confusus, or maybe Strobilomyces floccopus, the old man of the woods. Both are edible boletes.

Top one is a Russula. The colors look like it was taken by the lobster parasite, which is a good thing...but, I dont think so.

The last one looks awesome. Id like to see more pictures of it!

Went out again today and got some new, different pictures on my better camera. Similar habitat; different river.

I thought that the first one was a russula too, but looking at it closely it almost doesn't look like it has gills, and it is awfully yellow for a russula. Hard to tell from a cell phone pic though.
