Today I noticed sugar ants stealing BRF from my jars. This never happened to me before, what is the cause of it? The jars did look alittle dry, is that the cause of it?

it's probably because you dont keep a clean house. I would elevate them off ground level and take care of them. your probably SOL though.

Thats not necessarily true. You shouldn't be telling this man he doesn't have a clean house, just cause of a few ants..
Ants some times just end up in you house in the summer. At least where i live. My advice to you Psycode:
Just put some ant traps in the room near your area. And btw, why are ants able to get pieces of BRF? It should be fully colonized before anything can touch it. It would be hard for a ant to get a piece of brf that is covered is psychoactive mycelia? GL

Haha ants that love to trip... I agree with SickShroomer, just because a few ants make it in a house doesn't mean it's dirty....

I apologize. I didn't mean for it to sound like he is a slob or anything. Sometimes all it takes is a few crumbs or anything left out. What i meant was that he should just move his FC and clean the area well then put it back.
Sorry, didn't mean it like it sounded.

I had the substrate in the jars for about 6 days now, I didn't see
any myc forming until now and not very thick. On top of the foil, I
saw ants gathering a pile of BRF powder, it's like they were
building a stash for the rest of the ants. I don't think I put
enough water in for some reason cause it was so easy to dump the
cakes out. I live in an area where our ants get to everything they
can. They even infiltrate a loaf of bread so I gotta keep that in
the fridge. I think my best option is to use micropore for now on.

Are you leaving your inoculation holes uncovered? Use tyvek filters and band-aids to seal the inoculation point. I can't see ants penetrating your jars that way.

Ants don't like the smell of fresh mint, we had a problem with them in our house until we planted some mint outside our back door ( where they seemed to be coming from )
They can't walk over chalk either, if you draw a circle around an ant it'll take it ages to get out. If you drew a circle around something to protect it, the ant's would probably come across the line then turn and go the other way.
