PMP Humidity
    #5809558 - 07/01/06 12:02 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

so im testing my PMP to see what kind of humidity level i will get, i have a digital thermo-hydrometer 20$ from petsmart for lizard cages and a taylor 1458 mechanical. the digi is reading 98 to 99% humidity and the mechanical is reading 94 to 95% which is right? im guessing the taylor because i know that it is a good brand name, what exactly is the "salt test" and any links? Also is 94 to 95% humidity good enough? if not what am i doing wrong? i am using a 92 or 94 quart plastic container cant remember which with a airpump rated for upto 125 gallons and black lava rocks. there is about 3 to 3 1/2 inches of rock with the water about an inch below.  i just wanted to get some opinions and information, thanks all!

that humidity sounds fine to me. The salt calibration consists of getting an air-tight container and put the hygrometer in it and then get you a bottle cap or something similar and put some salt in it then dampen the salte throughout and put it in the air-tight container. Leave everything alone for a few hours. Damp salt will maintain 75% humidity for quite a few hours. so from that you can tell which gauge is closer or dead on. But both of your gauges readings are fine IMO..
