People who invite themselves
    #5809427 - 07/01/06 11:18 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Last night, I was hanging out with a couple of friends, and I casually mentioned that I'm going to the Oregon Country Fair next weekend. One of the guys asks me for a ride up there. Now, I suppose it's my fault for not saying no, but I just hate how he always does this. He's 30 and doesn't have a car, so whenever he calls about hanging out, he always needs a ride. And while I wouldn't say that he's not outright annoying, it gets kind of awkward hanging around him for too long. The one reason I put up with him is because he always has great pot.

Ask him to throw down for gas money if he wants rides.

I'm sure he'd be willing to do that, but it's beside the point.

No offense but it sounds like a mutual relationship of using each other, no?

I guess so. But sometimes I wonder if the pot's worth it.

I know with my group of friends, when someone says they're going to do something, it's generally assumed to be an open invitation unless they say otherwise. Maybe this guy perceives your friendship differently than you do?

Possibly. If it was just this isolated incident, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's just that whenever my friends are hanging out, he'll call us and want a ride over to wherever we're going. Sometimes we just screen his calls because we don't want to deal with him.

Damn, sounds like you don't care for him too much as a person. Is that the only thing about him that rubs you the wrong way?

Well, I don't hate him, but like I said, he gives off kind of an awkward vibe sometimes.

That's a shame. If I were you, I'd try to mention it to him or something.

Just keep stringing the guy along, I'm sure he loves having friends that screen his calls, haha.

It wasn't even an overt statement like that. It was more of a passing reference.

what is worse?

People that invite themselves along...

or people that just show up at your house without calling first?

I hate when my family just shows up at my door...

without calling and asking if they can drop in and visit!~

Sometimes I won't answer the fucking door...

because it pisses me off so bad!~

If the only reason you hang out with this guy is his pot and he has irritating qualities, then you've just got to weigh out wether or not you value smoking his nuggies enough to deal with him. It's really just that simple *ShruG*
