Yea some cars are not engineered well at all, I know that the Dodge Intrepid has a stupid battery placement, you have to take the wheel off to replace it. Efficiency has just gone down the drain...Have you checked the manual on it?

I work at an Auto-parts store, and sell a ton of batteries. I also install a ton of batteries (free of charge) for the elderly, handicapped, and women . I usually don't mind at all, bing, bam and I'm done.
However, When I see a late model Chrysler, either the PT or the sebring/intrepid (and another mopar which evades me at the moment), I tell my would be customer: Hell no. Not for free. Not in this 90 degree weather either. You're more than welcome to buy my excellent battery, but... all you're gonna get outta me is a jump, and directions to my mechanic buddies down the road.
It ain't really that bad, but it is time-consuming and uncomfortable for me, who isn't licensed, insured, or otherwise compensated. Don't feel unmanly, do what I do, crack open a diet crystal light and a tofu bar, and let the mechanics do their thing!!!

I've heard plenty of other people say that, but they forget that without engineers, they wouldn't have a car in the first place (or air conditioning, refrigerator, computer, etc). The engineers probably put the battery there because it was the only viable space left for it to go. Things like the radiator, camshaft, and the basic engine have priority.

Yeah, but I gotta blame someone to make me feel less like a sissy-girl in this situation.
BTW- the mechanic who changed it this morning said it was the first PT battery he had done also. He said it was a bit of a pain in the ass and took him a few minutes to figure out how to go about it. I think it was worth the $60 in labor he charged me to save myself the aggravation.
