Do wisdom teeth really make one wise?
    #5801417 - 06/28/06 11:45 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I had the same irational dillusion when I had to face this darned operation. Aparently though, through evolution, our jaws just dont support that amount of teeth no longer. My conclusion was that I am ever much as wise as before I had them exiled from my mouth, if not more so because of the deep depression and pain suffered through and overcome. Its not wise that we shuld have to pay 1000$ + for such a thing, it really doesnt take much effort on the part of the dentist. If your worried about losing some form of your "transcen DENTAL" wisdom (Woo HAHAH) Im almost positive it doesnt leave you by getting rid of 4 burdonsome molars.

*on further note...Your signiture makes me laugh everytime I look at it. Awsome !

Yes, definitely.  I knew that I was meant for great things when my dentist informed me that my jaw had plenty of room for all 4 wisdom teeth.  I brush and floss them with pride, knowing that they are the source of my deep wisdom.

The small-jawed homo sapiens are an unfortunate genetic mutation, and will be selected out.  For now, they are useful as Taco Bell employees and car wash attendents.

No, 4 is the correct number of wisdom teeth.  Having 5 means that you are a brain-eating mutant from the Planet X!!!

Eat them? No, no...that won't get you anywhere. I inject them directly into my frontal cortex.  :syringe:

Yes, wisdom teeth are a tremendous advantage, as they serve as a recepticle in which concentrated wisdom can be stored.  No, seriously.  No word of a lie.

The story of my own experiences with wisdom teeth;

As a child I was told that my teeth were spaced too closely together and that I should get braces to spread them across my jawline more evenly.  I refused.  As a result, as an adult I have found that I have plenty of room for my wisdom teeth, plus some spare room around them which makes maintaining them easier.  I feel a very special sense of smugness when I consider that by opting out of an unnecessary and painful procedure as a child, I've saved myself from needing a painful and expensive surgery as an adult.

It wasn't painful, my trip was fun, I got drugged and knocked out, and woke up seeing double, the best part, plus I got hooked up on some pain pills, and was virtually painless for over a week, there's nothing to smug over man, you missed out

"I feel a very special sense of smugness when I consider that by opting out of an unnecessary and painful procedure as a child"

Why do maintain such an overiding sense of self importance or ego?

Nine years after my wisdom teeth had fully emerged, I went to a new dentist for a routine check up.  Without even consulting me, he told his assistant to schedule an extraction of my wisdom teeth!  I interrupted, asking him whether there was a problem with my teeth.  He said that they were fine, but that I did not need them, and they were difficult to keep clean, so I had better have them out!

I told him in no uncertain terms that I knew he was trying to thwart my destiny, and that I would remove his testicles if he tried to take my teeth. Goddamned enemy agents, they are working everywhere these days.

Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

Word to the wise...It isn't as simple to ust avoiding having them out, this I had unfortunately believed also, until they protested against the rest of my perfectly peacful rooted white jewels...No mercy for disobedient molars I say...They are imprisoned now, exiled forever from the glorious garden in my mouth...

I'm so glad that my humble thread has resulted in the gathering together of so many of the world's wisest men!

Personally I used to believe that choosing not to have perfectly healthy teeth removed just because "everyone does it", was the very act which made one wiser.

Word to the wise however, listen to your dentist and follow his teeth care instructions. I was lucky to be able to keep my wisdom teeth which hath made me so wise, but every case is different. You may not have the room in your jaw for yours, in which case you won't be as wise as I, but your mouth will be OK.

All four present here in my mouth

They pushed the other teeth a little together, but that's nothing compared to still having them, you know
