store mushrooms!!!

i had a few questions!!! 1) can you put mushrooms in the freezer when there fresh to store them? 2)how to dry 10 pounds of mushies? 3)preservation method would be dry them then leave in a dark cool place cause if i had 10 pound id put it in a container and barry it in the bush but in the winter would they get ruined???

1. try the fridge. (you'd need an industrial size to store 10 pounds) 2. Food dehydraytor (buy a cheap nesco and get a SHITLOAD of extra trays) 3. I can store a few pounds for ya..

1) no when you get them out they turn to mush, 2) best way to dry is a dehydrator, like the nesco, from walmart 3)That would not be wise at all, once dry you can vacuseal it

There are tons of preservation teks. Don't freeze them when they have ANY moisture content. After then are dry they need to be kept in a cool, dry, dark, airtight place. (The freezer is overkill a cool cabinet in the basement would work fine.) Also, try to store them in GLASS, not palstic--the plastic allows for gas exchange. You could just dry them out REALLY well, then cram as much as I can into glass canning jars to minimize the amount of air in there. Hope this helps.

I just froze some fresh mushies and it worked OK but I put mine in smoothies so them turning to mush is no prob with me!
