I just cased straw spawned from aussie on wbs into an aquarium using a 50/50 peatmoss and vermiculate casing mix. Over the past few days there has been a rapid overlay growth rate. what can i do to fix this before it is too late and get ht e pinset back into action without the overlay. thanks for all help.

You need to stop the vegetative growth. This mean lowering your humidity and temps. You might cold shock 'em to stop it quick. Your casing will still pin w/ overlay, just not as well. Depending on how far along it is, you could try 'deep scratching' the casing, taking off the top layer and applying a new thin layer of casing. This would work best if they aren't too far along (and into fruiting stage) and if your original casing layer wasn't real deep (otherwise the addition of another layer could be too much). Or you could try doing this after the first flush. The problem with both these options is they the greatly increase your risk of contams and they are a lot of tedious work. You might just want to fruit them as well as you can (which can still produce some mushies) and then just be more careful next time. There are great articles around here about preventing overlay and pinning strategies. Hope this helps.

is it possible to get a picture up? i don't know how experienced you are but most of the time people misidentify overlay, and over-react - doing pointless and detrimental things like suggested above. overlay should not be much of a problem with a 50/50 verm/peat case. overlay happens when nutritious items are used in the casing, such as coir, giving the mycelium something to eat near the top...
cold shocking will NOT help you. scratching will probably not help you either and only make your pinset worse. people really need to stop suggesting such things... they're either just repeating what they've (incorrectly) heard, or are giving really bad advice without understanding the situation. not trying to be a dick, but those answers there will almost certainly cause more harm and/or delay the process than any good they can possibly do.
all that aside, you can apply a little more casing in areas where its coming in heavily. give it more FAE. FAE stops vegetative growth, not anything silly like putting it in a refrigerator (which will only stop growth for the time its too cold to grow!)

-------------------- Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy. Oyster Shell "Flour" $2 for 1lb. a hell of a deal Not what is overlay but rather what overlay is Gas Exchange vs. FAE "We all have priorities. I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"
