P. caerulipes ???

Found another handful of what I had thought were P. caerulipes,

My original finds and pics here Though considering the recent post by MJ concerning ShroomyDans ohio finds I am wondering if that is what they really are. Guzman stated that the presence of the annulus was what had ruled out caerulipes, and these also possess them. Any thoughts?

I don't know, they look like caerulipes to me...wish I could find some..............

Do your mushrooms have a ring on the stems when you find them fresh?
mj
IF they do not, then they are deifinately P./ caerulipes.
Just recently, the onees Shroom Dan has been picking which do have a ring are nt P. caerulipes. Will keep you updated on new info as I get it.

Those are "Bluefoots", but the worlds premiere expert on Psilocybe says my bluefoots are not P. caerulipes.
I don't know man. Nice shrooms.

I should mention that the term blue foots came from Gary Lincoff wwho also called P. Stuntzii in his book as Stuntzii's blue legs. When I asked him where the term fcanme form he told me he made it up for lack of anything better. AS for the blue foot for P. caerulipes, I think Smith may have called them that.
Lincoff reports the stalk: Veil: partial veil, evanescent.
Online gives this definition of evanescent:
Quote:
Meaning of evanescent (adjective) vanishing quickly; dissipating like a vapor; fading; dissappearing
Example of evanescent The evanescent mirage could only be seen at a certain angle.

These are the best pictures I could find of the rings. I don't think they are evanescent but I don't know.

Those pictures dont quite like blue foots, but they may be. Caerulipes always get bright blue on the stem and many times on the cap. Mine are very vibrant blue and are usually in big clusters. Need a better id from a more expirienced hunter. Dan?

I would call that veil evanescent, it had a veil and it disappeared for the most part. A persistant veil on the other hand is usually there hanging on to the cap edge in pieces or as a skirt on the stem. Most of the evidence of veils in your pictures would be hard to see if they were not dusted with and highlighted by spores.
Both persistant and evanescent are relative terms. It is possible for a species with an evanscent veil to have an intact veil on the stem. It is also possible for a mushroom of a species with persistant veil to lose its veil quickly.

I've seen some with what appeared to be semi-persistant rings.
Like in these pics that I took in Ohio.

Notice how in some them seem to develop a pretty large veil remnant area.
In all of my other pictures, most traces of the veil are not present.

look a hell of alot like weilii, as I've mumbled before about blue foot.
-------------------- I went to st thomas and camped out ontop of the island... Despite my entire family being poor all my life, the land is priceless. I was chased by haitians in the main city charlotte amalie when my girlfriend and I got some cocaine for free in a bar and mixed it with alcohol, to form a stronger drug. With such confidence at 2am, we walked the 4-5 or so miles down to the beach where the african slaves lie like lions waiting on tourist prey. The war isen't on drugs... the war is on the causes that influence people to abuse drugs. drug-abuse is a by-product of the system and much like radioactive waste occurs from utilizing nuclear power, drug addicts with drug-problems will need to be properly disposed of, like the decaying radioactive waste produced from nuclear energy. -i2ancid

sativa -
Can you give a geographical estimate of where you found yours (e.g. southeast/southwest VA etc.) Also, where they some distance from a river and approx. how far if so. Thanks =)
I am in central NC and hunted for about four hours over the weekend w/ no luck finding caerulipes. Though, I admit, I expected the gills to be darker than the pics posted by eris.... I honestly could've missed some as I expected a darker brown gill. What color were your gills?
I need to take my ass to the library today and get some good mushie books so I will be more prepared in the woods.

The gills start out a lighter color - most of those specimens in my pics are young. The older ones develop the darker colored gills.
The cap color is the opposite. It is hygrophanous and can start out a darker color, drying to a lighter color.
There are many more pics in my photo gallery, see the link below in my sig.
