Crying...

I don't cry very much, but I just started to one moment ago, not for unhappiness or happiness but just to see what it was like.
The thought occured to me, that crying was a lot like losing one's ego temporarily. It is an act that symbolizes, "I am ready to let it all hang loose at this moment." Maybe this is why we find it so helpful and healing.
Thoughts?

Well it's pretty simple and it applies to everything, not only to crying. You should let all your feelings express and take place, no matter how odd they would seem like. LOL like really, I see it as a key to solving many problems, not only on the psychological aspect, but in the spiritual and energetic levels too.... but I guess now that they all relate. So yes, cry, laugh, scream, love, whine, let all your feelings out. Repressed feelings are the ones that got humanity in a shitty situation so I see no reason for doing that anymore.

good thread.
i might try to do some crying sometime soon. not try to force it, but just feel it come along and sweep me away. i like what you said about it being a temporal loss of ego. very interesting indeed.

I agree, What an amazing point you make.
When crying in hystera, one can argue that the go is most definitly at loss.

I've had so much tension inside me today. I feel like I've been holding back tears all day. Thanks to this thread I was able to just let go and cry. Not nearly as hysterically as probably necessary, but it's a start. Thanks for the help.
I don't even know why...

I love crying out of pure joy for life. The feeling is like no other. I think crying is healthy in many ways. It can heal a person emotionally.

i cry in movies, etc. even during cartoons when the puppy is separated from its mother. i am easily manipulated by emotional factors in situations and stories. the pain is often just an excess of sensation (including thought), and emotion becomes a kind of high, a mental intensity state shift, an opportunity to see the world differently. I consciously choose not to hold myself separate from the stories that I am exposed to. it's like having extra lives. this is not different from the detatchment I might practice in zazen.

Crying gives me tangible depth to understanding. I don't cry often or voluntarily because I see no reason to let myself go completely and sob about something when it's not important. I hold nothing against those who do, so long as it is for a reason that is understandable.
