Drying with a Fan
    #5804174 - 06/29/06 06:03 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Hello,

Is it possible to completely dry the mushrooms with a fan? I know most people say to fan dry first and move on to damp-rid, but I was wondering if the damp-rid was necessary.

Thanks

yeah. but that last little stubborn bit of moisture takes a really long time to get out that way... and if you live in a humid area you'll have a real tough time ever getting them completely dry. if they're not dry and brittle completely they won't keep as long or as well, and you'll have a hard time gauging dosage because the amount of water weight left is a mystery...

fan drying is ok, as long as you make sure there are cracker dry ( yes you can get them cracker dry with a fan) .

even in high humidty i can get the fruit completely dry in just under a week, less if it is less humid

and fan drying actually makes very little difference in the potency.

I fan dry all my mushies and they are just fine. just leave them under the fan for a couple days and they should be cracker dry. Also if you rotate them once in a while it might help them dry faster.

Fan drying has always worked great for me, i found damp-rip to be annoying, however, i still use it for stubborn batches... the usual rule of thumb though, is about 3 days on the fan, then a 1-3 with damp-rid. Good luck!  :mushroom2:

I have a dehumidifier thats runs all the time so I put the shrooms in a small laundry bag and weigh them down around the exhaust, the air is warm and dry works great!
