Problem with Taylor 1458

I just started using a brand new Taylor 1458 thermo/hygro in my FC. For some reason, the remote unit in the FC is not transmitting its signal to the base unit outside of the FC. I thought these things are supposed to be able to go through walls. I'm using a rubbermaid footlocker and it's not transmitting. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an ideal distance away from the FC that the base unit should be? I can't figure out why it won't go through a rubbermaid when it's designed to go through the wall of a house. TIA.

Is it receiving when they are both outside the FC?
I've modified mine a bit and I'm getting through several walls and over quite some space.
Take them outside and see if it's recieving though the air at least 40 feet.
If it's not, put new batteries in(even if u just put new batteries in).
If it's still not then it's one of 2 problems.
1. defective unit, take them back or send them back for a replacement.
2. Someone in your area is using that frequency. They work on the same frequency as some garage door openers. It's also a military frequency, so if you live near a military installation their radios could be blasting over your little signal.

Yes, it is receiving when they're both outside of the FC. The low battery light isn't on so I don't think that's the problem. I don't live near a military base (Thank Jah for that). I'll take them outside and see what happens. Thanks.

i'm not familiar with that model but most combination electronic thermometers/hygrometers only transmit temperature from the remote sensor... there's not a remote humidity, the device usually needs to be in the location you want to measure humidity. might or might not be the case with yours but something to consider.

Yes the Taylor 1458's have temp and humidity on both units.
It should easily be able to signal througha plastic bin. Are you sure its plastic and not fiberglass or something like that?
