Afoaf is curious , he thinks that the black big seeds in your standard WBS are causing some problems during colonization.
Any thoughts on this? I've read ehre and there peoples theories, but ive never read a full good answer on the situation.

Wait till more people chime in on this one seeing as I'm pretty new to using seed,(1st time ever is colonizing now),But from all that I have read those are the sunflower seeds and they float so they are easy to get rid of by just skimming them off the top.I have read that its just a matter of preference though and some people just leave them in.I cant really recall anyone saying the screwed up anything though but some people remove them anyway.Hope this helps at all but as I said wait till ya get some more feed back from people who know cause I would have hated to give you bad advice I was just telling you what I read.Good luck

I was removing them for awhile. I did a few jars with them in and had fine results. Now I'm leaving them in. I think the jars look nicer without them though.

I remove them. Jars still grow OK with them in it, but they are larger than the milo/millet seeds and really make the mixture less uniform. Leave 'em in, remove 'em, doesn't really matter. They are so easy to remove when floating about that it's not a big deal.

the thing is, the seeds don't do anything for you; usually its no big deal to just scoop them out. if you did this, it would create more room for the other seeds that will help you.

Try to look for Wild Finch Blend. I picked my WFB up from Wal-Mart. About $6 for a 5 pound bag. It has plenty of Millit seed and little to no Sunflower seeds.
