Why do hot dogs come in packs of 8 and buns in packs of six or twelve? I know it's been talked about to death but seriously?

Maybe it has to do with bakers and their odd compulsion to make things in multiples of a dozen. The six buns obviously being 1/2 dozen. Maybe there was a huge rift between the bakers and the butchers over what the magic number would be.
More puzzling is how can I get a package of 8 hamburger buns, but not 8 hot dog buns. Seriously.

More of the compulsion. A baker can't sell 13 of anything, so if s/he has one extra, s/he still has to make it somehow into a dozen, hence the bakers dozen. Totally logical.

If you're riding a cement canoe down a river and the wheels fall off how many frogs are in you're oven? WRONG!! 'cause ice cream doesn't have bones and jeeps go beep and sometimes it rains in the winter. April showers bring may flowers a stitch in time saves nine the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain and that's the price of tea in China

I feel like it was repeated in a patterned sereis in a poem. I want to say one of the beat poets, but I googled it and can't come up with anything. Maybe it's just a phrase lots of people say, and I just heard it somewhere.

JIMMY BUFFETT - "What If The Hokey-Pokey Is All It Really Is About?"
The universe is runnin' away I heard it on the news just the other day There's this new stuff called dark energy We can't measure and we can't see It's some elemental mystery Train that we can't catch But our heads are in the oven And somebody's 'bout to strike a match Meanwhile back on our big round ball Things are getting serious as cholesterol Permutations, calculations, Greedy piggies at the trough Arrogance and ignorance Just to top it off I just can't keep up with the Nasdaq Who got sold and bought I've got to take my lunch break But I'll leave you with a little for thought
Maybe it's all too simple For our brains to figure it out What if the hokey pokey Is all it really is about
What if life is just a cosmic joke Like spiders in your underwear or olives in your coke My life can get as messy as a day old sticky bun So I arm myself with punch lines and a big ol' water gun They say it's not that simple but just maybe it should be It's time to change the subject, would you join me in a cup of herbal tea?
Maybe it's all too simple For our brains to figure it out What if the hokey pokey Is all it really is about
I still believe in rock 'n' roll It pays my bills and soothes my soul There really really isn't A whole lot more around Except for Frank Sinatra and the Big band sound I want music in the music I want chicken in the soup I want caffeine in my system let's revive the hula hoop
Maybe it's all too simple For our brains to figure it out What if the hokey pokey Is all it really is about
-------------------- -QuantumMeltdown Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. -Mark Twain "The time has come the walrus said, little oysters hide their heads, my Twain of thought is loosely bound I guess its time to Mark this down, Be good and you will be lonesome Be lonesome and you will be free Live a lie and you will live to regret it That's what livin' is to me That's what livin' is to me" Jimmy Buffett
