i picked up some Panaeolus Subbalteatus this morning after rain in my lawn... and they looked exactly like this when i picked em out of the grass, ive been letting them dry in my room since this morning, but now the cap is all white... theres no more paler brown and dark brown parts, the caps are white!!! is this normal? and also, are there better methods for drying?
oh and how long should i let them to dry before i zip em in a sealed ziploc bag?
oh what are spore prints? ive been reading about that here, how do u get them 2? and what do u do with em?

If you are asking what spore prints are, then you have no way to possible know that your mushrooms are Pan subbalteatus vs. Pan foeniseci. As for what a spore print is, read the FAQs and RULES on this website and your questions will shortly be answered. In the meantime DON'T eat those mushrooms you found as you should know what the fuck you are doing before taking your life into your hands like that! ;-)

yep i know. :p. im a noobie in this hunting thing.. as for my shrooms, ive read about the spore prints, ill be doing them overnight... but i still have quite a lot of knowledge over the psilocybin containing shrooms that grow around in Quebec where i live, and the deadly lookalikes etc... and the ones i got i am pretty sure are Panaeolus subbalteatus. skinny white stem... the cap were pale brown on top, dark brown around...
but now the thing is . ive been letting them to dry and the colours on the cap are all gone. tahts whats really putting confusion in my head

Don't store dry mushrooms in plastic! Don't store wet mushrooms in plastic!

Skinny white stems are more of a characteristic of Pan foes than Pan subbs. Panaeoleus mushrooms (and tons of others) are hygrophanous, which means they change color as they dry. That could cause what you are seeing. Or they might be rotting from being in a plastic bag. Either way, be careful!
hehe, me and Shroomydan posted at the same time.

It's best to leave air dry mushrooms in a paper bag, because it's hard to get them completely dry. Only seal up dried mushrooms if you use a dehydrator or desiccant.

Yes, agreed, the skinny white stems sound more like Pan. foes than Pan. subbs, And there are other mushrooms that have spindly white stalks, hygrophanous cap, and black spore print, which are NOT Panaeolus subbalteatus.... For instance, Psathyrella gracilis http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/photos/Psathyrella_gracilis(bk-02).jpg and Psathyrella longipes http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/photos/Psathyrella_longipes(ms-01).jpg http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/photos/Psathyrella_longipes(bk-01).jpg

Definitely not subbs. They really have a 'no-doubt-about-it' black spore print. Keep looking!
And indeed yessup, there is too much confusion.
