This is what my casing looks like after 6 days
15 1/2 cups vermiculite 15 1/2 cups peat moss 4 1/2 cups flour oyster shell
As far as moisture content goes.... when I held the casing no water dripped, squeezed a little, some water dripped etc... did my research
What can the prob be?

I also need to make another casing that has been past due, and want to see what was wrong with this one before I did so...
I just my try a straight up 50/50 and see what happens

I can't really tell from the photos. The casing looks like it should after about 6 days. Are all of the spots bright white or is there some grey or other colors among your white sections?

what are you seeing that we dont?? i see good healthy mycelium so you tell ME what the problem is...? is it because your not getting pins? if your"problem" is with the moisture level thats where you want it, you dont want the casing material to be over saturated you want to to have enough moisture to squeeeze out which is what you have so thats not a problem... if you question is if you have a contam i dont see one so theres no problem... please be a little more specific...

I am not fruiting yet
this is 6 days after casing today is 7
I was wondering how long should it take for my substrate to colonize or should I try to fruit it as it is?

I may have figured out the problem... I may have cased too early....
I used 2 1/2 gallon spawn jars mixed with 1 mini bale of straw from mycosupply.
12 days passed and I cased. Is that too early?
After pasteurization, I drained for about 3 hours. Maybe the moisture content of my straw is not precise so it may have slowed the spawning process.
Anyhow, I must tweek out my procedure
If anybody can think of anything else, It would be my pleasure to read it....

Are you sure?!?!
I thought the casing should be 90% + colonized before adding humidity and light
Can another experienced grower post their opinion please!

7days incubating a casing and thats what you got....how thick is the casing ontop of cakes? maybe taking a little longer to come through a thick layer.

yeah, if you can get a pic of the whole thing so we can see the whole top layer there, that might help make a decision too

IMO the fact that you have myc on the top of your tray already in fairly good looking random coverage indicates that your ready for the FC. The rest will colonize in the FC or even better than that - start to pin just below the top of the casing. If that is what you have after 6 days then it could take another 4 for 90% top coverage. I have never heard any recommendations for incubating trays for 10 days. I am getting into trays myself so lets see what some of the pros say. good luck.

that casing should have been put into the fruiting chamber as soon as the mycelium first started coming through the top of the casing layer.
so yes it should be already in the fruiting chamber!~
