It sucks when your good friend doesn't want to trip

My good friend is a lot like me and the most intelligent person I know, but for some reason I can't talk him into tripping. I know your not supposed to peer pressure anyone, but I know he can handle it and probably love it. I think he just has that stupid, society instilled, unfounded bias against hallucinogens that the government and media has scared into everyone with horror stories and lies. I've had several friends in the past that used to never touch anything but alcohol, but then once they tried some different things they realized how stupid they used to think about it. Why is it so hard to break this misconceptions?

I know what you mean... I too used to be the same way, then when I matured and started thinking for myself I realized my opinions changed about alot of things... give it some time, link your friend to these boards, I started smoking more weed when I found everyonedoesit.co.uk, and after lurking around on shroomery tried shrooms as well...
Let us know if he's up for it after a while.

"Cold War era intelligence services were keenly interested in the possibilities of using LSD for interrogation and mind control, and also for large-scale social engineering. The CIA conducted extensive research on LSD, which was mostly destroyed.[4] Project MKULTRA (also known as MK-ULTRA) was the code name for a CIA mind-control research program begun in the 1950s and continued until the late 1960s. There is much published evidence that the project involved not only the use of drugs to manipulate persons, but also the use of electronic signals to alter brain functioning; for details, see the MKULTRA article proper.
The British government also indulged in LSD testing; in 1953 and 1954, scientists working for MI6 dosed servicemen in an effort to find a "truth drug". (In all probability, MI6 was motivated by rumors that the Soviet Union had developed brainwashing drugs.) The test subjects were not informed that they were being given LSD, and had in fact been told that they were participating in a medical project to find a cure for the common cold. One subject, aged 19 at the time, reported seeing "walls melting, cracks appearing in people's faces ... eyes would run down cheeks, Salvador Dalí-type faces ... a flower would turn into a slug". After keeping the trials secret for many years, MI6 agreed in 2006 to pay the former test subjects financial compensation. Like the CIA, MI6 decided that LSD was not a practical drug for brainwashing purposes.[5]"
this is VERY diturbing to me but I have no idea how accurate that info is(tho I can only assume its real since they are not a drug based site and because the other info is so right on the money)

Hell yeah it's real, I've heard about this from different places. It's what that movie Jacob's Ladder is based on. A good, and freaky, movie I might add.

i think your statement answers itself... if he's that smart, you wont talk him into anything. not everyone needs to trip in order to gain insight.

Explain to him the importance of set and setting. A person who has obeys the simple set and setting rules is not going to put themselves at risk of being harmed.
Have him read this, too:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsible_Drug_User's_Oath
All in all, it's not about "convincing" him to do it. Explain how you feel about psychedelics, and give him access to reliable information. He can decide from there. Psychedelics aren't for everybody.

life is the trip use what you learned in the looking glass world. i.e. to invite, back off. to go right, turn left. make space for him to be his own way. you both are already on the otherside.

If he doesn't want to he doesn't want to. He really has to be open to them, not just like "hey I'll take these cause my friend is". If he has a lot of reluctance when taking them, he will increase his likelihood for a bad trip.
In my opinion, I'd talk about them occasionally until curiosity bites him. That's how I got into everything. I was a straight edge till curiosity got me. But people pressuring me to do it made me not want to.

I don't think that brainwashing is the right term, but LSD and psychedelics in general break down, tear away a lot of the facades in society and allow conceptions to be built up again. In Helter Skelter, the book about Charles Manson, it seems to me that this is basically what he did. He broke down his followers preconceptions and got them to go along with what he was doing. LSD was a big part of what he was doing. I wonder if James Jones had any LSD in his kool-aid...
as Bob Dylan put it:
"How does it feel To be without a home Like a complete unknown Like a rolling stone?"
The psychedelic experience is valued by any that have seen the light it can bring into the world, but it can also be exploited. Any thoughts on what I've said?

Leave your friend alone if he says no man...
If you're afraid he's ignorant, educate him. If you think he has misconceptions, ask for his point of view.
Don't try and push him into psychedelics... they're not for everyone...
How great would you feel if your LSD he made his fears come true?

The more you push him, the more he will reject it. Like everyone has said, give him the info and let him choose for himself.
He wont reap the benefits of psychedelic use if he is only doing it because you told him too. He has to be open to it.
-------------------- No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. Poor bastard will see them soon enough "There's a uh, big machine in the sky, some kind of, I dunno, electric snake, coming straight at us." "Shoot it." "Not yet, I want to study its habits. "
