does anyone have problems with the temps in your area being too high for growing? its a good deal hotter here than is recommended for cubes, and i need some ideas on an economical way to keep my setup cool, since i dont have air conditioning.

I have a heat problem in the room I would like to grow in. It's a small room, so I am looking at an air cooler vs. an air conditioner becuase they are less expensive.

remember what climate cubensis grow in naturally. I can't imagine many places that are hot enough to cause a problem for growing indoors. Your place would have to be 90+ all the time to get close to a temperature problem. High temps might not be ideal, but you won't have any problems if YOU are able to live there.
Ice packs work, frozen bottles of water work.

well, i dont wanna be too specific... but perhaps it is 90+ a lot of the time. but yeah, i was thinking like a reverse fish tank heater setup or something, with maybe ice water instead of a thermometer. would a coolmist lower the temp for incubation and in a fc?

Large h/poo or compost substrates generate a LOT of heat, after adding spawn. If you tried to incubate a bulk substrate around 90F. It would overheat & cook itself to death.
Window frame type air/con units new can be had for $150. You can often find working ones at thrift stores for $25.

sorry to bump my own topic, but im still having trouble finding a good solution to this problem. the temperatures in my room are around 90-100f in the day, and then drop to about 70-80f at night. incubation should be done at around 70, and fruiting around 87, so im worried that i might not even get as far as pinning with that much variation. i can either stabalize the temps in my incubation box, or i can stabalize the room. i tried an evaporative cooler to cool the whole room, but the temps were still varying between mid 70s and low 90s. i bought a styrofoam cooler, and put some ice packs and icewater in the bottom to keep the heat out and keep the cool in, but according to my hygrometer it didnt do much good. im going to hook up a coolmist into the incubator tonight, to see if that will get the temps lower or constant, but im not sure it will. i really wanna get started on my project, cause it sucks to have waited so long to get everything together and then realize i might have to wait another 3 months before the temperatures drop. if theres nothing i can do then oh well. guess ill just have to wait a little longer. but if anyone's run into this problem or might have some ideas that might help, id appreciate it.

If it's possible to stick them in an environment that is insulated, such as cooler, with ice and what not, during the day, that would possibly work. You just need to find some way to mainain the tempatures that you would like in the container.

does your a/c not work? I mean it's hot as balls here where i am (high 90's pretty much everyday) but my a/c keeps my place and my FC at a max of 77 during the day and 72 at night.

I got a $90 AC unit from Target. Bam, 75 degrees down from 90. Just get an ac unit, nothing is easier. If you want to save money a cool mist humidifier will make a difference but only if you are in a low humidity environment already. If it's Florida or something with 90% humidity it will make no difference.
