Stray dog leads the way to marijuana Warren Township homeowner had plant-growing operation, police say Wednesday, June 28, 2006 BY MATTHEW J. DOWLING Star-Ledger Staff
A stray pit bull led to the discovery of an indoor marijuana- growing operation in a Warren Township home, authorities said yesterday.
Somerset County investigators seized 23 marijuana plants being cultivated under grow lights in a bedroom closet and arrested resident Stacy William Flood, 34, on drug charges Monday, Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said. Advertisement
Flood also was turning his ga rage into another small marijuana farm, with five pots already containing marijuana stems and roots and six empty pots surrounded by lamps and ventilation equipment, Forrest said.
"They were not full-grown plants," Forrest said. "But one plant can produce up to 2 pounds a year, and a pound goes for $900 to $1,000."
The discovery was sparked by the report of a loose pit bull at 9:43 a.m. Monday on Charles Road, near the Stirling Road intersection, Forrest said. Officers captured the dog and determined Flood was the owner, Forrest said.
A day earlier, another pit bull owned by Flood was found dead on Stirling Road after it got loose and was struck by a car, Forrest said.
When officers attempted to re turn the dog found Monday, the door to Flood's Trenton Avenue home was open and the officers tried to determine if he was home, Forrest said.
The officers entered the house and spotted a marijuana water- pipe, or "bong," and other drug paraphernalia, though Flood was not home, Forrest said. Investigators contacted Flood by mobile phone and he returned to the house, Forrest said.
Flood consented to a search, and the 23 marijuana plants were found in an upstairs bedroom closet, Forrest said. Eleven plants were growing in hydroponics apparatus, and another dozen were planted in soil, Forrest said.
Investigators also found grow lamps, dehumidifier fans, water pumps and fertilizer, Forrest said. In addition, detectives found anabolic steroids and hypodermic needles in the house, Forrest said.
Flood was charged with third- degree possession with intent to manufacture marijuana, third-degree possession of anabolic steroids and a lesser count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was ordered held at the Somerset County Jail on 10 percent of $10,000 bail.

So, if his door is open, they can waltz right in? How is that not unlawful entrance. Cmon people...if there's no vehicles at the house, and no one answers the door, they aren't home.
But he is a dumbass for consenting to a search. All they found was paraphernalia to begin with.

1. He's a dumbass for letting his dogs run loose, and/or not containing them 2. He's a dumbass for not locking his door, especially when he's got weed and pipes laying all around and a fucking grow going on
What a dumbass
