A friend has a large amount of colonized horse poo sitting in a tub, he is wondering how long he can go without casing it before negative effects occur... can someone please help him with this one. Thanks you.

soon
if you wait way too long...
what happens is the mycelium continues to eat away at your substrate...
then shrinks the substrate up til it can't consume anymore.
then it's done for.
why are you waiting to case it?
you don't have to case horse poo...btw. you can fruit dirrectly off a horse poo bulk substrate without a casing layer.

cant you stall myc growth in jars by shoving them in the fridge? im not very knowledgeable on the subject, but what would happen if you put the tub in the fridge?

^^^^^ Cubes haven't a need for a casing layer! Just give them a good environment! Yes you can "stall" myc by putting it in a cooler temp.....however this starts a hibernation period. It is hard to get poo to want to consume more after you've told it its done, however not unheard of. Just Fruit it!!! You Will be Happy!

My friend has to hold up his operation because a suprise guest has been scheduled to live in his house all next week... He can't have the lights on because they will be very visible, and he doesn't want to attract any unwanted attention. He was wondering if he could wait a week after full colonization of the massive poo cake to case. And is it true that horse poo doesn't need to be cased? Doesn't the casing help to get a good pinset?
Thanks for all the feedback, my friend really appreciates it.

I hate having guests that aren't cool...when I have a grow going on!~
I wouldn't wait a week...I'd go ahead and put a casing layer on it!~ Putting the casing layer on now will buy you a little time.
Yes its true that you don't need a casing layer on a bulk substrate of horse poo!~ I wouldn't have told you that you could...if you couldn't!~
here is a bulk substrate of horse poo without a casing layer...

Yes a casing layer will usually give you a better pinset.
Sometimes not using a casing layer will pump out larger fruits though!~

Exactly......all environment based. if you lay your bulk out flat(i even use plywood to flatten it) you will get a good pin set!!
