What the hell is this?
    #5799103 - 06/28/06 01:53 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

So I was trekking through the woods today, and I came across this FOUL looking and smelling mushroom:

It had such a strong pungent odour. The cap, which seemed to pretty much fall off when I poked it, looked like it was covered in goose shit, green and slimy. There was another one next to it as well. Underneath the stem, there was a 'ball' of what seemed to be clear jelly.

It's the weirdest shroom I've ever seen, does anyone have any idea what it is?

Cheers.

Odd...... but we need a better discription for a proper ID. You seem to have quite a few posts, so I hope you have read the FAQ. Maybe one of the experts will know what it is just off hand.

Looking at the related posts, it appears to be a Stinkhorn

haha, I love it when people find stinkhorns. That one is called "Phallus impudicus".  Which translates literally to shameless phallus. hahaha.

Here is my octopus stinkhorn I found. If you look closely around any stinkhorns, you'll find their "egg" which they actually grow from. On some species, you can actually eat it.

Hehehe, ball of clear jelly- gross.
Yeah, I like stinkhorns... I usually bring them home with me on hunts. But they aren't really good for much, except maybe attracting bugs.
