Wonderful Suprise
    #579844 - 03/15/02 03:49 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

I came home from work today to find that my landlord was in the process of having one of the 3' diameter 40' oak trees cut down. I spoke with the "tree guys" and asked them to leave the wood. What would you do with all of this wood? The tree, I should mention, was healthy; it was just being removed for cosmetic purposes. I have shiitake, pearl oyster, reishi, chicken of the woods, turkey tail, nameko and king stropharia cultures. Should I plug all of the logs or utilize sawdust spawn? What would you do? I am definately inoculating the stump with Chicken of the Woods. Is it possible to inoculate it with different cultures and still get worthwhile fruitings? Any comments, questions or suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Go Gourmet & Medicinal Growers! Have a great weekend. G

You can find different species growing from same logs in nature however I think the yields are smaller since they have to compete with each other for nutrients.
