Pan. Subbalteatus in Massachusetts
    #5796077 - 06/27/06 03:02 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Hi, I am new to mushroom hunting and have purchased a guide book as well as downloaded a few for safe ID'ing. Anyhow, I live in Massachusetts and was wondering if anyone has had any success in the past or present in finding Pan. Subb. in Mass? I know it is in the faq etc. and I been trying to find more information about active mushrooms in Massachusetts but cannot find much. Is late June-early July a good time to search? There has been repetitive rainfall as well as high humidity and temperatures (roughly 70-80) for the past week or two. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Luckily, Subbs are easy to find...well, sort of. Instead of having to search the depths of the woods like some edibles, you can just visit your local horse stable and look for their manure pile in the back. Most of the time, depending on conditions there will be some growing.

Many east coasters lately have been positing up pictures from their lawn findings. I believe the best lawns are those with fresh sod (spelling). There have been some new york findings, so my bet is you should go out and start looking for some since its the right season for 'em.

Good luck. Check out my gallery http://www.shroomery.org/forums/usergallery.php?gallery=11661 and check the pan subb pictures.
