Random pics...

Finally, I got my new hard drive up and running, and am able to post pics. Nothing active here, I just enjoy being out. My girl and I had a blast just walking around and finding the random mushies that came up after the recent rains. I am just starting out with my camera, so this is like a test run for me. Enjoy.
I didn't have to go far until I ran into destroying angel...

An unidentified mushroom growing at the base of a pine.

Here is one I thought was pretty cool, it was growing on a dead pine branch, the gills are on the top of the carpophore...
Bottom:

Top:

Here is one interesting specimen that has me baffled, I have not yet seen anything like it in id keys, it was growing from the ground in a mix of pine and elm, it was just like a young deer antler, I didn't disturb it, but now I think I should have cut it to see what the inside was like...

A wider (a bit blurry) view...

I'm out of room for now, but I wanna add some other cool pics to this thread later. I hope you enjoyed the pics half as much as I enjoyed taking them.
peace

Very cool. I've never seen that one with the gills on top. And I have no guess about what that antlery thing will end up looking like. Seems like amanitas are all over the east coast right now. Look forward to seeing more pics.

The bottom one looks similar to the chicken of the woods I find around here. They are actually edible. However, yours does look a little different.

Thats a young chicken mushroom (antler looking one)... the other one that you said had the spores on top is simply a relatively flat mushroom on a log that rolled over upside down. LOL. I had the same epiphany erleier today out in the woods! I also ran across a chicken mushroom but mine is way prettier than yours lol. In a day, when I get more space I'll show ya.

Angry shroom the "hen of the woods" and the "chicken mushroom" are two seperate species or at least seperate variations of the same species. Hens are grayish with more stem matter, chickens are usually cream and a little more spread out. One variety of chicken though is orange with white spore surfaces (the kind I find).

I need to go through the motions of resizing. Let's try this, I hope it doesn't ruin the thread (if so, I'll fix it later)

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you enjoyed the pics. So, it seems chicken of the woods is unanimous. It didn't strike me as that type of fungi, but I guess it most closely resembles a young specimen I would be posting pictures of cubes, but I have a peculiar situation, as I am new to my area. It's a small town with cow and horse fields galore, but people are so protective of the land around here. Tresspassing is a definate no no. Since SWIM has more actives than he knows what to do with, I am not motivated to take chances like that. In the most beautiful field I have ever seen, I spotted a dog (looks like a chow) that patrols the field >yikes< These people must've had alot of bad experience with mushroom hunters in the past. So, this weekend I will be knocking on some doors to see if I can gain access the right way. Check out this cool looking stump near my house

it's been colonised by Panus rudis. I briefly thought they would be Panellus stipicus, a mushroom that glows in the dark, not it, I tried
