White variety Muscaria? (pics)

Went on a short woodland hunt today. I ran across many amanitas and boletes out the wahzoo. There was a wide variety of species popping up due to the good weather. I posted a few of the decent pics for you mushy porn addicts.

That was a couple of emetic russulas, some chanterelles, a flaviconum, some orange mycenas and some kind of milky. But the mushies that really sparked my interest and made that humid hike worth it were these babies.

I was wondering if you guys could tell if that was a white muscaria or am I barking up the wrong mushroom? Note the concentric rings. Is that a feature that some other amanitas have as well? Don't mean to sound like an idiot I'm just making sure I know my amanitas before I mess with them. Thanks in advance!

Nice Chants. IMO Id stay away from ANY Amanita that is that pure white.. It looks to me like Amanita cokeri.. But thats my 2 cents as far as an Internet search! Great Photos!

Nice finds man.
Those could be A. muscaria var. alba, but there are enough deadly white Amanitas out there to scare me away from them. ToxicMan may be able to give you a conformation.

Could be A. muscaria var. alba or A. citrina var. alba, the latter of which tends to have some yellowish / green coloration, and smells strongly earthy (or starchy), especially in the gill region. A. citrina also tends to be more smooth on the stem.
Likley to be A. muscaria, however, this mushroom has not been explored thoroughly (for consumption). The only consumption "experience" that I know of directly had unpleasant side-effects. Also, to repeat, you're messing around w/ a dangerous portion of the mycological trade (white Amanitas).

Excellent pics and IDs. Those russulas could be emeticus, but the red capped russulas are a mess to ID to species. I found a gazillion red russulas just now on a walk (maybe more like 100). At least 1 of them smelled like rotten shellfish which is a characteristic of several of the red-capped species, at least one of which is rated as highly edible! I don't think i'll take my chances. Those white amanitas look a lot like A. cokerii. Check out my gallery for some possible cokeriis that I found last fall. As others have said though, there are other white amanitas that can look like that.
Again, excellent pics, thanks for posting.

Also, A. cokeri tends to have pointy veil remnants on the cap (the warts), plus the scales on the stem tend to be persistent and appear to have been peeled back from the stem,, as opposed to the "scales" on A. muscaria, which tend to appear as a sheathy covering on the stem, and rub off / stick to the hands very readily.

Definitely *not* Amanita muscaria. That's one of the all white Lepidellas (section Lepidella of subgenus Lepidella of genus Amanita), and a similar species is Amanita cokeri, as already mentioned by YESSUP. Another similar species is Amanita atkinsoniana. Toxins in these mushrooms have not been investigated enough, and there have been fatalities from some people eating some of their close relatives. They are not any of the other known Amanita toxins, and it appears that they may cause kidney failure (not a good way to die).
Great specimens and photos. And chanterelles!
Happy mushrooming!

The one in the third picture looks like a safe one to play with. And that one in the last two pictures is deadly! For all I know about those ones is that your lucky that your hand didn't cramp onto it and kill you...

Thank you all for your knowledgeable answers. Amanitas are a tricky trade. I guess they should remain forest dwelling eye candy. Except for the obvious red Muscarias. The first one of those I find is gonna be dried and then yummy in my tummy. Its funny I found them all the time when I first was interested in mushrooms but I didnt even know what tripping was back then. Much less was I mentally developed and strong enough to handle a muscimol experience. Oh well my time with the soma is nearing... I can feel it.
